- Flybe has started its significant expansion from London Southend (SEN) with the introduction on Monday 1 May of three new routes to mainland Europe. Using E175s operated by Stobart Air, the carrier has added Cologne Bonn (CGN), Lyon (LYS) and Milan Malpensa (MXP) to its existing services to Caen, Groningen and Rennes. A further eight destinations will be added in the coming weeks, though plans to serve Figari in Corsica appear to have been shelved. In addition, the airline has also added links from its new crew base in Düsseldorf (DUS) to the Channel Islands. None of these routes faces direct competition this summer, though easyJet operates a winter-only seasonal service between London Southend and Lyon. Previously, airberlin flew between Düsseldorf and the Channel Islands, but it has suspended these routes as part of its on-going network restructuring. See how Cologne Bonn Airport’s FTWA compares to others from around the world.
