Blue Air opens its first UK base – also adds Copenhagen to ever-growing network.
Blue Air opened its first UK base at Liverpool on 26 March with the inauguration of flights to Rome Fiumicino. Routes to Alicante, Hamburg and Milan Bergamo will be launched in the coming days. To celebrate the opening of its first UK base, the airline unveiled a Liverpool-themed livery on the 737-800 which it will base at the airport. Seen posing with the 737-800 in Liverpool, along with the flight crew, are: Liverpool Airport CEO Andrew Cornish; Blue Air CEO Gheorghe Racaru; Blue Air CCO Tudor Constantinescu; and Liverpool Airport Director of Air Service Development Paul Winfield.
Blue Air began its first operations to Copenhagen Airport on 27 March, starting a three times weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays) link from Turin. A second route from Bucharest will begin in June. Seen officially opening the route with a ribbon and cake cutting in the Danish capital are Vlad Cristescu, Network Development Executive, Blue Air, and Oliver Wormslev, Senior Route Development Manager, Copenhagen Airport.
Blue Air on 26 March began its latest route from its Larnaca base, a three times weekly (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) link to Birmingham. The 3,396-kilometre route will face direct competition from three carriers, namely Cobalt, Monarch Airlines and Thomson Airways.
- Blue Air launched its latest base in time for the start of S17 on 26 March – Liverpool (LPL). The base becomes the airline’s eighth in total, and marks the carrier’s first based operations in the UK. Gheorghe Racaru, CEO of Blue Air, commented on the opening by saying: “It is indeed a proud moment for us at Blue Air to further expand our European network with the addition of Liverpool as our eighth operational base. We are confident that our actions will make Northwest England more accessible, further boost tourism and foster economic development in the region. Today’s achievement indicates our commitment to offer Liverpool City Region and their potential visitors, a seamless and convenient travel along with affordable fares.” The airline opened its base by starting a daily service to Rome Fiumicino (FCO), while flights to Alicante, Hamburg and Milan Bergamo will also begin in the following days. Along with opening its newest base this week, Blue Air added a new airport to its network – Copenhagen (CPH) – commencing a three times weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays) link from Turin (TRN). As well as expanding from its Turin base, Blue Air has also begun flights from its Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) operation to London Luton (LTN) and from its Larnaca (LCA) hub to Birmingham (BHX), with the latter two being the only routes launched by the airline this week that will face direct competition.
